so as some of you may know, I have been an assistant coach for my 7 year old son’s football team. We have had a rough start to the season, as the head coach, wile being a great guy, lacks any real organizational skills. this has been rough for me as I am slightly anal retentive when it comes to organization… To make matters worse he agreed to bring on a third coach who was more of a disciplinarian than a coach. This guy has a serious attitude problem as well as a huge ego, to be short he is one of the biggest assholes I’ve ever met. so this past Tuesday, I being the defensive coach, during a scrimmage vs. another Bantam team here in waukegan(we have three) I was short three of my starters and we only had 11 kids total. as I was rearranging the D line I put his grandson at the left tackle position(which the kid has been playing all season) this other coach began screaming at me that Gabe(his grandson) shouldn’t be matched up against the O player. as I had no other choice as to where to put him I said “I need him there” at this point he told his grandson to get out of there. I turned around and walked over to him to explain that if come Saturday he had to play that we cant control the other team. as I approached him, half way through my sentence he hit me and knocked me back 5-6 feet and I almost tripped over a player. I did not retaliate in any way except to tell him he just made a huge mistake. So we were both asked to leave practice at that point which I did, then headed straight over to the police station( as my brother is a commander in waukegan) to press charges. I was shocked to learn that this coach has a long an detailed history with breaking the law and usually slips through by witness intimidation. so the following day i was told that “witnesses” said I charged him, and the board members were suspending us both through saturdays game, pending questioning of parents and others who were there, one of us would be dismissed. I found this to be unacceptable as I never touched him. so now my son wants nothing to do with the team and other kids were disturbed by the event. the only people who saw the indecent the way it really happened are 6 and 7 year old kids… that is so sad that people can be intimated by him as such. So I told Connor he didn’t have to go anymore, he can focus on Boy scouts till next year when we would sign him up for a better program. hopefully the police and DA will be able to make the charges stick as I am one of the only people to agree to testify against him…. So sad isn’t it?
September 24, 2009 at 2:38 pm #57682Sounds like what Iathouz went through last year with his team as head coach. He ended up fired by the league commish who is a royal twit and had a personal vendetta against him.
He’s back this year with the next year group team as defensive coach and she’s no longer with the program.
But it sure made him sick last year.
Good luck with the situation. Don’t let the assholes of the world get you down.
September 24, 2009 at 3:31 pm #57683That dude sounds like a cockdouchemonkeyweasel.
Sorry that you had to be on the receiving end of his jerkitude.

September 24, 2009 at 8:03 pm #57685dang dude. Hopefully your board will do the right thing.

This is doubtful, as there is a “good ‘ol boy network” going on up here, and He is intimidating people to say they saw it “his” way.
The moral of this story is that some people don’t belong in some places. We only chose this program because the good programs in this area were long filled up and this money hungry group was(and is) still accepting new players. Next year he will play for a much better program.
The saddest part is, the only people who saw it the way it happened and are will to tell the truth are 6-7 year old kids. They went home and told their parents exactly what happened, but no one is listening to them because they are kids…….
September 28, 2009 at 8:44 pm #57687Stick with the Boy Scouts. At least you won’t be punched in the face when your kid doesn’t do the dishes while on a camping trip.
That guy’s behaviour was outrageous. He needs a few stink bombs on his car.
Really sorry to hear you had to experience that, Boost…!
September 29, 2009 at 12:00 am #57688That’s why you buy a bull-horn and you scream everything, always. That way no one can say you are out of line or character, and there is no need to leave where you stand.
People are trash nowadays, expect it.
September 29, 2009 at 2:30 am #57689I have to stick my $0.02 in here. What the HEL is going on in our society that loud mouth, rude, arrogant jerks get away with all sorts of stuff? Today, my daughter and my wife were sitting in the mall parking lot, parked, feeding my daughter’s new baby, and some lady turns into the spot next to her and hits their car.
They get out and this crazy woman starts screaming at them, abusive and for no reason at all. They did nothing because of the baby, and I think they were a bit afraid. I advised them to CALL THE POLICE. I know that in future, I will no longer hesitate to get the police involved. No longer does society impose restraint on people. They act like lunatics all the time, and it’s supposed to be acceptable.
That is B*LLSH*T. If someone gets in your face, CALL THE POLICE. Don’t be embarrassed, don’t “give them a break”. Get them in as much trouble as possible. They will ruin YOUR life in a heartbeat. It is sad to have to do that, but there is no longer an alternative. If you wait, they use their influence to screw you over.
Boost, if you are ever in that situation again, red-tag the guy INSTANTLY. Then, when he starts abusing you (and he WILL), call the police, and have him ARRESTED. Then, let him explain how you abused him to a judge. It really is depressing to me that this is necessary, but it’s come down to you screw him over, or he does it to you. And if the league tries to dump you, threaten to SUE. It’s a litigious world, and the only way to survive and get any respect at all is to use the same tactics.
Good luck on the league, and I hope it works out for ya.M3C

that’s my aunt, she kind of resembles this. (except for she shaves)
September 29, 2009 at 4:23 am #57691Mutual combatants, they guy’s going to say he was defending himself from your “charge”. Unless you have significant injuries or goog independent witnesses they generally won’t do anything with a case like this. It’s not a winable case from the prosecutor’s prospective.
There is no such thing as right or wrong, only what you can prove.

Then start carrying a video camera around. This is the electronic age. If witnesses won’t help you, help yourself. Just leave it running during practices and games, and flush the memory when they’re over. This way, the psycho’s tirade is caught in living color and sound. Then, when they ask the witnesses if what is on the tape is right, they have to tell the truth. (Duh!) THEN, have him arrested.

I am just going to be more careful with the programs i sign my kids up for. Had I just done a little research and asked around a little, I would have been warned. I saw this programs lack of proper leadership long before this incident. I blame myself the most. I feel so bad, but the kids will end up as losers in life if they continue with organizations like this one. Statistics for this program are sickening!!! Over the last ten years, only 15% of the players made it to high school ball. And 3/4 of the leftover 80% turned to gangs and crime. I wish I would have read that before I signed Connor up…….
October 1, 2009 at 12:33 am #57694This can be solved with a great football quote. The best offense is a good defense. Recording equipment like a pocket voice recorder has helped me at work, attitudes change when I plop it on the desk and claim that I am going to record the discussion.
Parking-lot fights… I see this all the time. Call the police, remain calm and lie errr exagurate their actions. As they get mad and irrate, you look right as they show their colors. This is the tactics they are trying to use. Attack first so you can’t attack them. if your deffense is the offense… your on the same page as them.
October 1, 2009 at 4:26 pm #57695you’ll get your just desserts when you read aout how coach meathead and meathead jr. are in jail because eventually their luck will run out.
Nothing says i shouldve treated people better than an *** ****ing in prison.
kids turn into their parents – statistics show – so it was good your son didnt see you retaliate. teach him when its okay to fight because there definitely are appropriate and necessary times. don’t let up on your charges and be sure to monitor and record if he harasses you for your persistence.
October 31, 2009 at 4:45 am #57696as an update to this story, the poor kids finished the season 2-7. with proper coaching they had enough talent to flip that record. at least my son didnt have to experience a loosing season due to a bad program.
