Footpeople you not safe
Sun wander forest, find path again. Head Foothold. She see strange men with ox and black-white bird near last falling water. Bird walk funny, make Sun smile. Roar. Big black cat attack men. Big teeth. Sharp claw. Sun scared, she run.
You be scared too. Eye open black cat. Sun hope bird escape. He funny.

Sun make letters good, yes? Practice much. But Sun need help Markshire words. Forest words most. You find Sun, teach–she make kit you.

The girl approaches the board, looks around nervously. Her face reveals equal parts anger and embarassment, both emotions internally directed and incompletely concealed by the fan she carries. She quickly looks over the notes she had left before, adds a new one, and edits the first, scratching out furiously the word “footpeople” and replacing it with “footholders.” The new note reads:
“Half-ing tell Sun her note off-end. Sun very sorry. Not mean that just warn. Never want off-end. So be careful big black cat, FOOTHOLDERS. Cheng Sun-Ok, seam-stresser”
She bows quickly from the waist to the board, backs away, brushes a wrinkle from her sleeve, and leaves.
