So, I have an idea for my character and wanted to post it up before I get too deep into it, mainly to see if it would fit the setting.

Mainly, the idea is that there is a loose-fitting organization based around the idea of having a priest or priestess paired together with a guardian of sorts, a companionship, a bound between the two that help protect one another.

The group itself would only consist of maybe 5-6 pairs of individuals, with a final pair that sort of act like the leaders … though because of it’s lack of many rules, most of the pairs are spread out through-out the land – though the ‘eyes’ (as I’d call the leading couple) would have magical means to communicate with each pair.

Why this would be developed… the idea that came to mind for this setting was that maybe a small group of priests had been ambushed or attacked by giants or something else in the past, and while suffering loses, the head priest decided that they needed guardians to strive away the evil threat. It may have been stronger in the past, but it’s since then dwiddled down slowly to the 6-7 pairs.

If approved, I’ll likely be making Adora’s backstory include how she lost her priestess partner (Adora is a priestess herself, but serves as a guardian).

    Hey there–!

We chatted briefly about this while in-game the other night. But I still like the idea, and think it can work.

There was a major throw-down not to long ago in an eastern city called Gastlinyk Gate. Essentially, much of the town was ruined, and is currently embroiled in some serious conflict. It could very well be that the other members of your character’s order were lost in the battles, and your character fled west–or was ordered to do so–along with the hundreds of other refugees in an effort to regroup. Eventually, Markshirians plan to take back the city from the chaotic forces that are currently at large within those city walls. Your character’s order may want to spearhead or support that effort. I know there are a couple other players whose active characters want to see that happen.

Other players and DMs: please chime in too!

    Welcome to Markshire Lydyn!

Sorry for the late reply, things have been a bit crazy with the holiday weekend.

I like your concept a lot; it’s a nice backstory, while still being open for many avenues of development.

One question I do have relates to what deity you see your character following. I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that many, or most, of the Markshirian deities could have a group/order like the one you describe. But some of the deities do have established groups in game (e.g. Tyr). If you were to choose them, it might require some figuring out how the order your character belongs to interacts with the in game groups.

The deity choice will also help guide what you and the DM crew come up with as the raison d’etre for the order. Is the deity chaotic or lawful (this distinction is a defining aspect of Markshire – a discussion of this can be found here)? If you’d rather not discuss this publicly, send any of the DMs a PM, and we can use that.

Lastly, when you feel your character is ready, definitely feel welcome to request a character development session (CDS), either in the stickied thread in the “Out of Game” forum, or via PM (to Munin, or any one of the DMs). That will be a great way to work through these ideas in character.

And again, welcome! Hope to see you in game soon!

    Welcome to Markshire!

I like the concept that you’ve come up with and I’m sure it would be do-able here in Markshire. We have many great DMs (like SMR) that I’m sure would be willing to help set up some nice RP to get you started. But, I can only really talk from a player’s point of view, but I can say that the DMs here are very helpful. I’m sure you’ll find that out soon enough though. 🙂

As mentioned, having a diety in mind will help with your character concept for in game RP. And yes, chaos vs lawful is more the way things in Markshire are presented, not to say that there isn’t good vs evil too, because there is. And when things are ready, a nice CDS session(s) would be the way to go giving you some good RP time for your character and with a DM.

I would like to suggest creating a bio for your character. This is an area where I know I’m lacking a bit but I hope to improve that by making a bio for my most recent character. This is a good place to lay down some roots after you work out the back story and details of your character. Which is what I’m currently working on doing too even though I’m already playing that character. If you’re up for some reading or you need to see how things are structured, you can check out the bio page and read a few bios of other characters to get the feel for it. And to be honest, some of that stuff is pretty good reading. Some people keep a running log so to speak of all of their adventures in Markshire, so there’s a lot of history there.

Well, I hope that this helps in some way with your character concept and being able to flesh it out. And before I forget, the most important rule in all of Markshire is: Have Fun!

    Peace,
    Cor

Haha, thanks a lot for the friendly advice and welcomes. I have been role-playing for about six years now, so there’s no worries in the basics of creating a character, though I sure appreciate it! =D

I just wanted to make sure this was possible before writing the biography for my character, so I have her backstory all flushed out, y’know?

Anyways, the deity Adora would look to most often would likely be Odin, but much like the pantheon of the gods is more or less a huge family, the group itself would likely consist of clerics from several different faiths and their guardians would … range from just being really close friends to the cleric or sharing the same faith, to being lovers and the like.

As far as neutral vs. chaos goes, the group would … likely be neutral? I come from a mindset that focuses far more on good vs. evil (though I love what I’ve read so far of this setting), more or less because it really speaks to me as a person. As far as that goes, the group would likely be good, so in total; Neutral Good overall.

In summary, Neutral Good group consisting of several different faiths that include guardians from all walks of life. Anyways, I’m going to assume at this point, from all the positive feedback, that this is accepted and I’ll move on to Adora’s biography.

    P.S. – I like how I’m a rat. What, do I have 1d2 + Con modifier HP? =P

Not sure where else to post this, but I wanted to express my thoughts so far … one, I’m just assuming there’s not a lot of people on this server? Second, I ran around trying to find a inn room to rest in, but there’s no way to do it.

The Nest has no rooms and the Red Dragon Inn rooms are all locked with no way of acquiring/buying a key for them.

The server is populated somewhat sporadically. It all kinda depends, but there are a couple of us currently moving, and with limited access in game.

As for resting, feel free to use Templesw or the Barracks in the Hiring Hall

No worries Lydyn Just give us a chance to get all our ducks in a row. (OMG!!! I just spoke hillbilly…Help me) we are in the process of working the problem. Dont give up on us. There are some Great NO! Fantastic RPers here things are just kinda crazy for a few of them (My whole life revolves around crazy so Im used to it ….kinda) But spend a little time with them and I promise you’ll be completely hooked. Besides I really dont think there is anywhere else to play.

Once again Welcome to Markshire and I really look forward to meeting you in game.

Also, Thrym added the correct key to Barrelgore the Minotaur’s store, so you should be able to get the key for the rooms at the Red Dragon Inn.
