I am writing about the difficulty in obtaining skeleton knuckles in the game. As you know, knuckles are needed for crafting enchanting oil.
I’m sure everyone’s aware the Abby sells only two flasks of the oil each day. Once those two flasks are purchased, the Abby will sell no more until the game has been re-set and sometimes it’s not re-set for two or three days. Another way to get the oil is to craft it yourself. For that you need the skeleton knuckles. After a character reaches a certain level the knuckles are no longer available.
The only other option left is to post a notice on the Foothold Bulletin board about needing them and offer to trade items for the knuckles or buy them from characters who respond to the post. Some people will respond and indeed, you’ll collect a few knuckles that way, but it is only a short term solution. Another way to get the knuckles would be to persuade lower level characters to collect the knuckles for you. You’d pay them well for the risk they’re taking and the time consumed. But the trouble with that is there are almost no new players to do that with.
Besides, if you’re interested in advancing your crafting skills, you need either the oil, or at least the knuckles on an almost daily basis and it would be impossible to find someone who would enjoy collecting knuckles for you day after day. It also would be unfair to ask anyone to make that kind of commitment to you.
Without knuckles there is no practical way to obtain enchanting oil. Without the oil, enchanting stops. And so many other crafting skills which are interconnected to it also stop.
Why bother to learn gem crafting if it’s not possible to make enchanted rings, scarabs and necklaces? Why bother to learn scribing skills if you are not able to make the enchanted inks you need? You also need the enchanting oil for enhancing armor and weapons.
I would be grateful if someone could help in solving this dilemma.

July 31, 2010 at 1:03 am #58278Well.. first of all… I would start with the less experianced player-characters out there that could be tasked to collect them for you. Wanted posters in the towns Billboards could help bring you and them together to make such trades.
July 31, 2010 at 3:04 am #58279What less-experienced players Opie? Are they hiding somewhere? That’s the point I was attempting to make. There aren’t any new players to ask. I’ve also tried the billboard and as I said in my post, that’s only a short term solution. You’ll get a few responses and a few knuckles. There has to be a better, more effective way to produce enchanting oil in quantities that are meaningful. It’s crucial to the craft and so important to other aspects of the game.
How about putting an orc in a cave with a huge bag of knuckles? This orc is really a meanie. He’s very tough! Chances are he’ll be killing me long before I can lay my hands on that bag of knuckles. Well . . . I’ve died so many times I’m actually getting used to it! Garm and I often sit on a rock in Hel and share a cup of tea! He’s really not such a bad fellow. All of you out there must know fighting is not one of my best attributes. But . . . I’m willing to take my chances with that orc! At least it wouldn’t be impossible to obtain knuckles, just really difficult!

July 31, 2010 at 3:38 am #58280I( see the only real way to solve this issue would with a CDS…. I would love the chance to reopen the ODTC to help PCs with these problems. Let me put some thought into it and I will contact the powers that be and see what we can work out.
Boost
July 31, 2010 at 3:49 am #58281I think Boost’s suggestion is excellent.
Let me know how I can help.
August 1, 2010 at 1:30 am #58282Hello. Well, if I know my Zerg abominations they should have a lot of knuc… What’s that? Wrong game? Oh.. I knew that. I was just.. um… testing you guys and girls. Yeah, that’s it… testing.
Ok, back to Markshire, eh?
Well, I think a board posting is a good idea. I think getting some low level peope to help you is a good idea. and I also think a CDS is a good idea. But all of these are short term ideas and we need something for the long run. Something where people can get them for themselves somehow like other crafting materials.
The easy way would be to make all skeletons drop knuckles no matter what level they are. Or, perhaps give the player a shovel and send them to a grave yard to dig some up. (Thinking of the grave yard on the way to Spinehold) There’s my .02 cents.
Peace,
CorAugust 1, 2010 at 1:09 pm #58283I would stick to ideas that don’t involve changing the module as they are much more likely to happen.
For the most part, I won’t be editing the module for changes.
Now, that said, if someone took the time to load the haks into a module, and then spent the time creating replacement skeletons (ie. the flaming ones in the crypt that aren’t equipped to drop knuckles) and so on, then it’s just a matter of me importing and replacing existing stuff … that could happen.
It’s not that I don’t want to edit the module for hours on end… I am just directing my efforts toward more fruitful orchards for Markshire.
As a suggestion, check the random merchants in the bazaar and the ones in Stonemark each reset… as they may have a few knuckles each time.

Thank you Mr. Jack! I’ll have Catani craft a really nice pinky ring for you! I’ll mount a huge star sapphire on it with diamond baguettes on each side! I’ll use white gold I think. White gold will look better against the blue of the sapphire. I’ll also ask Opie to engrave a few words on the inside of the band if you wish. Of course you’d have to give me the information for that. Not too many words, mind you! It’s only a pinky ring!!

August 5, 2010 at 2:18 am #58285Does anyone know when the random merchants in Foothold and Market Square will sometimes be selling a few knuckles along with their other goods? I’ve been checking the random merchants every day in both places (and also at night) and no one seems to have them yet.
Kelly Ann 🙂
August 5, 2010 at 1:28 pm #58286Their inventories are random each reset.
So their inventories may not have them on occasion.
I’ll check the actual rarity later.
