What kind of Bandwidth do you think we could muster?

Guido’s grand broadband adventure took a HUGE wrong turn. We need options.

Hmm, lemme see. One smoke signal prolly takes maybe 10 seconds to fill the canvas before being released, and that’s gonna be 1 bit, rather than the typical 8.

*does some math, likely incorrect, but close enough*

    0.0125 bps

Seems likely an improvement for Guido, right?

Hey muler, can you use that guvmint puter to check on patents for TCP/IP over smoke signal?

If you get a blank return from that search, try it on a Dell.

Look, I hate to be the one to bring it up, but are we trying too hard to make this work? When BTP himself can’t make it because of the logistics, we need to take a hard look at what’s do-able, and what’s not.
I’m going round and round with Amtrak, because they have two trains leaving within 12 minutes of one another, and the price is $30 different. Guess which one works better for me? I would have to

Take the LIRR to Penn Station
Take the Amtrak to Washington, Union Station
Take the Washington Subway to Virginia
And meet Mule to drive the rest of the way.
    Reverse that on the return.

It would be great to be able to go down to Myrtle Beach, but I really begin to wonder if it is our best option. Vlan can’t go because of the same scheduling problems. If the destination is 4-5 hours away, a weekend is easily accomplished. When the destination is 12-14 hours away, it gets a lot harder. Just wanted to get that out there. I know it’s late in the game, but I had no idea it would be this difficult.

well that sucks BTP… Oh and monty just take the train to BWI i told you that one isn’t a problem for me and cuts out some extra steps. Unless it’s still cheaper the other route.

These United States are kinda spread all out and wherever we have it means driving/flying/rowing for some of us.

Is it too late to invite Roy and Josh?

heh, did I /really/ just type that?

Stinks that yous guys can’t make it.

I didn’t say I wasn’t going, just that it’s getting harder and harder to justify. G, it would be awesome going down there, it’s just that Myrtle Beach is off the beaten track, transportation-wise. No large airport nearby, fairly far off I-95, and Amtrak is 70 miles away. If I had a week to spend, no problemo – I could take a day to drive down, hang out a few days, and drive back. It’s the long weekend aspect that’s hard.
We’ll just have to see how it all plays out, that’s all. If it ends up not working out for me, don’t think I don’t want to visit ya, it’s just I couldn’t work out the logistics.

On another note, D.C. is the center of the east coasters 🙂 (and B-more)

Sorry muddy, you’re just way out in BFE.. and taking Remus into account D.C. is still pretty much the center… other than the ocean of course.

Why is it cheaper to fly to DC than to fly out of DC? Damnit that pisses me off. I want to go anywhere they tack on like $200 to the ticket. They prolly figure i’m some fat cat politico with all the green. God I hate this area sometimes … *sigh*

Yeah, the airlines used to play that game with us. You could actually buy two round trip air tickets that were over the weekend cheaper than one round trip during the week. What the travel agent would do was buy the two cheap tickets, and you would use the return flight on the first set of tickets to get there, and the outgoing flight on the second set to get home. It worked for years, until the airlines wised up and cancelled your whole trip if you didn’t use the tickets in the right sequence…..

Well, Paul now has to work that weekend because someone is leaving the store he’s at.

And I have no intention of doing the entire 15 hour road trip by myself at this point.

Unless something changes it’s looking like the Waterloo contingent won’t be representing.
