I restored access to the Server Gnome and Elvidnir, Garm’s List, via the new forums.
You can see them at the top, at left.
They were gone because as you can see, I’ve updated the forums. A client recently asked for an upgrade to phpbb3 for his phpbb2 forums.
The forum builders, phpbb, came out with a conversion method a while ago. It wasn’t a direct upgrade. I had to create a NEW forum and migrate the data from the old forum to the new forum. Originally, this was a long complicated affair, handled by hand and thus I never updated the Markshire forums. As of a recent release, 3.0.6 or so, phpbb added a conversion tool to their automated installation software. This new tool allowed me to migrate Markshire to a new set of forums (at a new address) and ta da … our new forums.
All database handling was automated. Nice. No data was lost that I can find. It even migrated our custom galleries, etc. I had to tweak a few things to make some things work but it was a matter of new server settings we didn’t have in the old forums.
Thanks to a paying client our forums are now updated.
