Valhalla lives again!
The home of MS1 is reborn and replaced to its rightful home here at FingerLakes1.com. We’ve tested it for full access and now I begin the work of restoring the game server on it.
This really only requires that I put NWN back on my computer (long story), open the mod in 1.69 and with ANY LUCK … I can just upload the mod and all is well.
However, if the updates for 1.69 FUBAR to many aspects of the module I may just go with 1.68. So be forewarned those of you hearing horses galloping in your head.
If everything goes smoothly the actual mod will be back online sometime later tonight.
Stay tuned…

May 5, 2010 at 9:56 pm #57976Will all of our PCs be there still or are we starting over?

Currently, PCs are fully restored except for two. Those two were insignificant.
What isn’t fully restored are DBs … the old HD was fried for the DBs. I pulled an OLD set of DBs that are better then starting all your crafting from scratch.
Sorry, there’s nothing newer available.
Module Restoration Update:
I’ve uploaded the Servervault files (PCs) and most of the DBs. They are large and I am waiting on the last one now.
I’ve opened the module and saved it in 1.69 and uploaded that.
I’m in the process of rebuilding the INI files that define how the server hosts our world. Still tracking down some of the settings.
I will test the setup shortly and then I will let people know what’s up going forward from that point.
Cross your fingers, folks!

May 6, 2010 at 1:12 am #57979It just occurred to me , that I forgot how to play the game…
I think I remember how to open it…. 🙄
Its like I’m a noob again, wait, I never was that good!! 😆

May 6, 2010 at 12:04 pm #57981Woo, Yay ! The Freezer is back !
Sort of.
A third of my chars are .. missing. All have been busted back by a year and more worth of levels; gear lost, no access to persistent chests. Panitha is now an invalid char due to having ” too many feats”. All of which is the effect of having to make such a drastic roll-back to old data; can’t be helped so it’s an observation, not a whinge, and maybe notification to anyone else intending to log in and catch up.
Actually I find the roll-back to be so drastic I would rather make a clean start of it all again .
Please delete all my chars, no attempts to save anything. I will take this as an opportunity to clean-up, start again and re-discover Markshire anew. Which is nice 🙂
(But horses are not; really, I find them to be not worth the hassles that do come about by their use. I would prefer to continue travelling the land via Shanks’ Pony)
May 6, 2010 at 12:52 pm #57982Hmm…I didn’t have any problems with Doog, but I haven’t checked my other characters. I wonder if it’s because 1.69 added the Ride feat, which may have put you over a feat limit for ELC?
Still, reworking new characters is a cool idea as well!

I fully expected issues to arise from the rebirth.
All of the actual servervault was recovered. If you would like I can check to make sure that your individual files were FTP’d to the server when I re-added it last night.
I changed nothing PC wise. But LT has a point about the effects of 1.69. I’m sure, if you reconsider, that I could fix any PC that is effected.
The Databases were a known issue as they were dead center of the bad sectors on Valhalla’s old HD. The old DBs were uploaded including the PC Chests. The OLD DBs are the most recent backups I could find since my personal computer also has been reborn and I have yet to go through all of the exported data from my old stuff.
If you are certain about a having all of your PCs removed, I will do so, consider this post an “Are you sure you want to do this?” message.
May 6, 2010 at 5:24 pm #57984Yes I am sure. Clean slate all round.
Thanks for the offer of rescue .. that would be a fair bit of work involved for you, Mr. T, but I am now looking forward to new (and maybe some old) aspects of new chars in a ‘re-vamped’ Markshire.
Regards, C
May 6, 2010 at 5:37 pm #57985May 6, 2010 at 6:35 pm #57986Glad to see that Markshire is back up and running, yay! 🙂
And Ceo is correct. Many of my PCs, if not all, have lost levels. I haven’t logged in yet, but I’ll do so later and see if I get any error messages like Ceo did.
Not really worried about restoring my PCs because I doubt I can remember what feats and choices they had made. I’ll probably start with some new PCs and make Markshire my home away from home, again. 🙂
Peace,
CorMay 6, 2010 at 7:07 pm #57987I will keep a few but not sure how much I will play them.
May 6, 2010 at 7:22 pm #57988In some ways starting some new characters makes sense. And I’m not just saying that because most of my characters are low level. 🙂
Remember that the Gate has been destroyed, the Titan is loose (CERTAIN AUTHORITIES – please not proper usage), refugees have streamed from Gastlinyk Gate have streamed down Thrym Pass into Foothold, Yar, etc. It is a time of upheaval in Markshire.
Those of lawful bent may be under duress, but it’s a perfect time for action. Those of chaotic bent, well….this kind of opportunity doesn’t come around every day.
Seems like a perfect time to bring out a new character. I’ve got a couple concepts I’ve been kicking around.
So let’s fire up some collective stories!
May 6, 2010 at 7:32 pm #57989Hello everyone. It’s good to see Markshire up and running again 🙂 Hope to see some of you around soon.
May 6, 2010 at 8:08 pm #57990to be clear, are we 1.68 or 1.69???
May 6, 2010 at 8:14 pm #57991All sorts of 1.69 goodness.
You’ll still need the haks, as indicated in the Downloads section.
That includes CEP 1.52.
Download away folks, see you in game!
May 6, 2010 at 8:20 pm #57992Oh yeah, hey Brind, good to see you around!
May 6, 2010 at 8:23 pm #57993working on it now, will be in game soon….
May 6, 2010 at 9:02 pm #57994lets pretend that I have never played 1.69… how would one go about getting one of them horses?
May 6, 2010 at 9:06 pm #57995Although 1.69 has the content for horses and whatnot, it’s up to the module builder to actually implement them.
That’s a short way of saying, you won’t get them in Markshire. 🙂
But, there must be modules on the Vault that use them. And there are some persistent worlds using them.
Sadly, I think the premium modules are no longer available for download. Because one of them, the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, was the first to have horses (I think, memory is fuzzy).
If you do play with the horses though Boost, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about them.
May 6, 2010 at 9:09 pm #57996I would have to do a lot of work to establish “horses” in Markshire.
Primarily, I don’t think the model is properly situated with our previous haks.
Then there’s the scripts, etc.
Personally, I am just happy to have restored the server.
If I get the hankering to actually implement them … well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
May 6, 2010 at 9:13 pm #57997May 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm #57998I always kept 1.68 because Markshire is the only reason I keep NWN, however I do have WCoC, and from what I remember the horses were a bit buggie…. I will give it another run through soon.
May 6, 2010 at 10:04 pm #57999Okay, I figured out why there was some disparity in PCs.
The folder I thought was the recovered files from the server was in fact older.
So I apologize for that.
I have re-uploaded the corrected Vault files.
Monty and Lt seemed okay with the older files so I didn’t replace the newer ones from last night.
Aelswith you popped on … do you want the versions you played with last night or do you want the last ones on the old server?
Ceorlas … you should check these versions and re-decide on the fate of your PCs.
Anyone else pop in last night or earlier today?
May 7, 2010 at 2:57 am #58000Last night my Molly was gone and my Loli had lost some levels. Today I went on and Molly was back and everything is perfect again! So . . . I guess you did something and now it all seems ok to me Mr. Jack. And thank you for getting everything fixed!
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
May 7, 2010 at 5:37 am #58001Nitha has a couple of ranger feats left over from a single ranger level I asked to be removed (long time ago).
Elvawen still has no storage access.
All in all .. I will still go with the clean slate and a fresh start entirely .. except for the lv 1 halfling rogue from last night (MEREDOC WRINT). He will be the first of the new batch 🙂
