I dunno if any of you have watched this show on VH1 Classic (here for old episodes), but it is excellent. A show all about different metal bands, with some cool guests and meaningless debates about who’s the better Sabbath singer, Ozzy or Ronnie James.
Yesterday I went to a taping for the new season, where we saw Chris Jericho (from WWE), who definitely knows his metal. Plus he did a spot on Lars impersonation that was hilarious.
For the 2nd taping we saw…the Metal God himself…ROB HALFORD!
Just tremendous all around. A drunk dude could not contain his enthusiasm and got kicked out. My brother got to ask a question on “Stump the Trunk” and got busted on. Some annoying guy at a bar afterward felt the need to tell us (I was wearing a Maiden shirt, my brother had on British Steel tour shirt) how technical and complex playing metal was. Well, he did until I kneed him in the groin and he could barely breathe.
Ok, so that part didn’t happen, but the rest did. And it was awesome. I think the first episode should air on Oct 10th? but I’ll let you know.October 2, 2009 at 12:45 pm #57698domfParticipant

I was listening to Jim Florentine who was a guest today on the radio and he was plugging the show. I guess he is a co-host or something…It seems like it would be a pretty cool show. He is comedian/hopeful actor who has done other things too (namely Crank Yankers). Hopefully he doesn’t suck on the big screen like Dane Cook.
I think he said it starts Sunday at 11pm on VH1 Classic. Don’t quote me…I could be wrong. Might be worth checking the TV Guide at that time to verify though.October 2, 2009 at 1:01 pm #57699
Yeah, Jim Florentine is pretty funny on the show. If you like metal and hard rock, then it’s worth watching.
I think that the first show of the new season is this Saturday, at 11:30. That’s after the documentary about the band Anvil (which looks great as well).
I’d guess the Chris Jericho show will air the next week on the 10th. Maybe Halford will be on the week after. If I get any insider info from my buddy at VH1 I’ll pass it along.

I almost wish I owned a television (and cable access) for something like this.October 2, 2009 at 5:19 pm #57701
Well the full old episodes are at the link at the top, broken into 5-8 minute segments. I’m not sure how quickly they make the newly aired ones available, but I’ll check around and give a heads up when they are.October 2, 2009 at 7:17 pm #57702muddyParticipant

Post when the airings are, I’ve always enjoyed that show.October 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm #57703
Tomorrow at 11 PM EST on VH1 Classic will be the Rob Halford episode.
I’m wearing my “Trooper” shirt from the Maiden show last year. See if you can find me.
After the show Halford was really very cool, he stayed to autograph and take photos with anyone from the audience who wanted. My brother got an awesome shot where Rob was throwing some devil horns. Classic.
Also, the first show from this season is watchable at the website above.
