Raining like crazy, basement has water, house is on what passes for the real estate market…
boy is 4 years old, complete maniac, girl is 16 months and walking (and might be taking a crap as I write this)…
Server is down and for some reason I’m missing it more than ever….
so the only answer is…..TO DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Preferably like this:
March 30, 2010 at 12:10 am #57775I miss it too . . . but dancing is soooo fun!!
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂

CorMarch 31, 2010 at 2:53 pm #57778Status update
I have to install a new hard drive. The hard drive failed in the midst of all the other BS that occurred with the computer. You should have heard it … it was like a fingernails on chalkboard constant whine. Still hurts my ears to think of that noise.
The new hard drive is acquired, just need to install Windows on it and get the stand-alone server back on it.
Next up: recovery of the old Hard Drive.
I imagine that you’ve just had your worst nightmares about that statement and sadly you are partially correct.
After some fitful starts/stops I have managed to save all of the PCs except two and those two are insignificant.
Sadly, all of the databases are hosed.
This means that Crafting, Death Counts and Persistent Chests will be reset to 0. There are some other minor issues with the DBs but those are behind the scenes.
1.68 or 1.69, that is the Question
When I do put this server back together and back up we might be updated to 1.69. This is a huge MIGHT BE. There are some serious updates from 1.68 to 1.69 and if the process fubars a lot of stuff I won’t bother.
For those of you who are updated or want to update to play elsewhere, I suggest that you dupe your NWN folder (possibly even onto a new drive) and update from within one of those folders. Then you’ll have both 1.68 and 1.69 on your machine.
Ping me if you have issues with that.
I’ll try to update you. Hoping to get the HD formatted and Windows installed on it over the next couple of days.
March 31, 2010 at 8:41 pm #57779please please please mr t man 1.69 has horses rideable horses and all the best servers have horses and could you please add d rowpires and that would be great plus levels to 40 so I can pwn some n00b cus im l33t

April 1, 2010 at 2:29 pm #57782<3 dis thread.
April 2, 2010 at 2:56 am #57783L33t means elite. This comes from 13yr old power gamers that were failing in school but winning at Halo 1.
pwn mean Power Own or to dominate with a vengence. Also origionated from illiterate power gammer preteens.
n00b means new person, or newb. Spelled with 0’s due to the preteens being unskilled with the technology they use, they can’t fix the stuck W key and didn’t know how to spell it in the first place.
We use these words still to mock these people. They still use them because they still beleive it makes them cool.
April 2, 2010 at 3:42 am #57784Thank you Opie! It was nice of you to explain all of it to me.
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
April 2, 2010 at 1:41 pm #57785The Googloracle has spoken. *bows head*
I just didn’t know it moved to Sacramento.

Not all of LT’s commentary was explained.
He left out the “d rowpire” reference. Which LT is directing specifically to me.
If you try to post the word “D R O W” it gets replaced with “drow”.
The reason for this is my deep and abiding dislike of all things to do with the race. I understand how many people like the concept of these dark elves and want to constantly incorporate them into Markshire with their character’s backgrounds, etc.
Therefore the race does not exist on Markshire.
The “pire” half of the comment is in reference to players who login to Markshire and expound that they are a “vampire” or are in some other elite position and expect the staff to base stories around them based on these spurious claims.
This happens a lot. Many players don’t care that the server is a Role-Play server and/or think that because it’s a role-play server that they can make up wild stories about their character that can’t possibly happen within the confines of Markshire’s culture and background.
So when taken into combination “d rowpire” means the absolute worst PC concept and role-playing intentions.
April 2, 2010 at 3:10 pm #57787OK ok ok ok.
I may not be a d-rowpire in Markshire.
But I am one IRL.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Plus, RPing a non-d-rowpire in MS is like really hard rp cus its hard when ur so l33t and the bl00dsuckin is all u want and wow i rulz you n00bs r so pwned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 2, 2010 at 4:02 pm #57788And thank you too, Mr. Jack for being kind and thoughtful enough to complete the explanation of the rest of the ‘words’ Lt. Tyler used in his post!
I would never try to pwn a ‘n00b’. I always try to help them when I see them! And I’ve never met anyone while playing this game who thinks of themselves as ‘L33ts’. And if I happen to see any ‘d rowpires’ running around in Markshire after you’ve fixed it, I’ll report them immediately!
Did I say it right?
And . . . horses to ride would really be so fun!!
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
April 2, 2010 at 4:08 pm #57789I’m just being a total goof. 🙂
It’s a little running joke between me and T.
I’d never harm a newb either; I’d help them along as well. I still remember when I was a newb here, and Dram helped the old fat priest figure out crafting. Then we headed out of the Grotto to find Viridian training Spana to use a certain spear.
*timewarp*
April 2, 2010 at 4:34 pm #57790I knew you were just teasing everyone. Your character ‘Dougal Fahrnshell’ is one of the funniest characters in the game! And if ‘Aels’ could catch him the first thing she’d do would be to replace the bloody bandage ’round his head, prepare a good meal for him, and give him a big hug!
It was fun for me learning all the new words!
Hoping to see you in the game when Mr. Jack gets it fixed!
And . . . fingers crossed for horses!!
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
April 3, 2010 at 6:07 pm #57791In referance to Horses… in Markshire…. and lvl 40….
When you design a world, and you ar Thrym, BTP, and Opinvu, you take into account all the aspects of the game at the time of conception. You place limits and boundries and guidlines to help you stay on track to complete the perfect vision you started with.
Markshire wasn’t designed for lvl 40, nor was it designed for horses. To add these 2 things would hurt the Markshire experiance. The forest vastness would be nearly obsolete… the danger of the pass would be mocked…. A lost city would be a training ground for boredum. Unless one was to do a MASSIVE makeover to the whole thing.
Now lets say MArkshire’s tectonic plate drifted into a land of Fire and brimstone, a challenger to Thryms domaine, an equally powerful and evil god with slightly more vicious followers of fire and death… It could be a land of 20+. But the problem with that… 1-20 is abandoned completely while your off in this other land. newbs segragated from higher levels. Markshire was centered around the start point to bring all levels back to a common place. This extra land would break that template.
Personally, I would leave out horses, and let the lvl 40 stand, add the planes. After you max at 20, your an agent of your god. Time to choose, with Thrym or against him.
With mean you fight the players efforts of the good and go around undooing the conquers they acheived.
Against would be traveling to these planes with the help of the temple priests and fighting deamons and their hordes. So sure you left the land of Markshire for a time, but this time is limited. One can only stay in these planes for a limited time before your soul is forced back to your body. Bam, back in Markshire, even though you never physically left while still getting the new area experiance. This concept of other plane batteling could be like missions where both good and evil could go to do battle, like a PVP realm with certain things needing to be destroyed or repaired. The good go to destroy, and the evil goto find resources and repair it. Evil can make trap kits in this realm that when triggered spawn deamon minions to aid the evil player. Thusly requiring some new fun craft recipies. and great script for T to write. The destructable/repairable MONOLITH of evil!
To battle the segration aspect like the Arik issue. (players run off to Arik and have no reason to come back and visit the newb except an OOC reason.) Markshire has many resources in place all over that a 20+ might need to gather and hunt down with newbs to fuel their next trip to the other planes. This would give reason for a 20+ to hang out with a lvl 5 and mine the same cave.. or gather vital herbs. So, thusly there is much preperation this 20+ needs to complete before he can go spend an hour batteling in the other realm each time. With multiple planes to visit, they can all have different requirements to travel to, and different challenges and different degrees or levels of difficulty.
This way you can then make your dxrxoxwx but really it is just a dark (damed elf) that took the side of Thrym and is sent from the other planes to battle on his behalf. Like giving them an avenue to use for their dark elf.
April 3, 2010 at 7:01 pm #57792Holy cow Opie!
Fire and brimstone and demons, oh my!
If by some chance one should catch me, I’ll die!!Ok, ok! No horses! Walking is healthier for a person anyway.
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
April 3, 2010 at 9:46 pm #57793I just don’t see horses fitting in Markshire. I hate the idea of horses because the full mod I made was called Horseless Nights. I choose it souly on the basis that the game had no horses, had some evidence of their existance, but just that, a small bag of it.
April 3, 2010 at 11:37 pm #57794What about a pony? A tiny one? They’re much smaller than horses!
Kelly 🙂 🙂 🙂
April 4, 2010 at 12:29 am #57795I’m more interested in being able to dye your cloaks. IF I remember correctly, that’s something that can be done. I just don’t know what it all involves, probably the 1.69 version and some cloak pack or something.
As far as horses go, um… I don’t see there being a lot of places you could ride one at. Not in any of the towns or citys that’s for sure. And they’d probably freeze to death in Arik or on the way there.
I don’t know much about the planes you’re talking about Opi, but it sounds interesting. Giving the player a few new places to visit can’t hurt that’s for sure.
Level 40 characters? I’m not so much into that really. I would think (if anything) that the cap would be bumped up a bit to maybe 25th at max. I just don’t see a need for that high of a level character. Maybe I’m missing something or didn’t think of something? Maybe on those planes that you’re talking about Opi would require a higher level pc to even get there?
Anyways, hope you all have a good Easter and talk to you guys/girls soon!
Peace,
CorApril 4, 2010 at 3:29 am #57796I’m sorry my senseless ramblings have started an actual serious discussion.
For the record, I don’t have much against horses (from an RP/setting angle- if there’s a technical issue with them-worse lag, whatnot, then forget it for sure), but I think they should be very sensitive to the cold. Take them outside at night or into the Desert/Tundra and they’re toast. And players with horses should have to put in a lot of effort to keep the horse cared for.
As for levels up to 40, I don’t favor that at all. There’s already too much power differential between the low levels and the highly experienced characters. A new setting for the super powerful just makes it worse.
April 4, 2010 at 6:41 am #57797Well, your rambeling sparked Ideas….
The realms I spoke of are in theory only. Not sure what or where they would actually be. But if the patch encludes these upgrades, then they would be sorta forced into play wouldn’t they? Unless of course you changed some server settings to limit the level cap, which I thought we were able to.
The 2da files I thought were T’s big issue withth epatching decission, but I couldn’t help but write the brainstorm this thread sparked. I miss creating something people enjoy.
April 5, 2010 at 5:51 am #57798At this time I am much more concerned with the server itself. I attempted to install two hard drives so far and both have failed to finish installation of Windows.
So, tomorrow I pull a third from an undisclosed location from an as yet to be discovered source and attempt to install Windows on that hard drive. There’s a high probability that it will cost me a fete from our tech guru.
That being said and back to the “seriousness” of the possible update to 1.69…
Op is correct. The primary concern I have for updating to the new patch is not the content. The only reason I would pursue the update is to remove the annoyance of the message upon login. The reasons for NOT updating to 1.69 are many … primarily of which is the sheer volume of tweaking needed to make the new patch work with the Markshire module.
To give you a clue as to the work needed here’s a list of some of the stuff that would require that I look at the haks we use and have made…
Tilesets (Doors, textures)
Placeables
Item Appearances
Items
Creatures
Races
Spells
AppearancesAnd of course, I will have to compare all of the core scripts to our customized versions so the new stuff works (like spawning horses with the correct behaviors and interactions).
That said, if upon quick update, I don’t see any major glaring holes or screw ups then I might just let the update stand with no changes on my end and let the mod go. This would mean that the mod would go up without any changes internally and people wouldn’t have to worry about versions.
So I hope that clears up my goals for getting Valhalla back up and for updating the server to 1.69.
“… and we thank you for your support.”
April 6, 2010 at 4:16 am #57799Hard drive issues? Need free hard drives? Copiers use hard drives like candy. I can always mail ya whatever ya need. We get lease return machines every day and they don’t need to go back with good drives. With the USPS flat rate boxes, shouldn’t cost much.
Sata, IDE whats your prefereance? Most are 160gig or 80 at the smallest.
Well, you know us! We would be happy with watever ya give us.
