In the long tradition of horrible juxtapositions, I bring you VIKING GOLF. Fortunately, this combination somehow comes out being greater than the sum of its parts…Golf is redeemed by a two-headed Nidhogg serpent. See pictures below.

These photos were taken during the week of 7 – 11 June, 2010. I took a bicycling trip with a few friends of mine to Ocean City, MD.

First, you are hailed by a tremendous street sign, just north of Ocean City in Fenwick Island, Delaware.

Once you’ve been greeted by the staff, funnel cake in hand, you traverse into a golf wonderland of danger and mystique.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/frontsign.JPG[/img]

Stare down the menace that lives in the Troll Tree.

Although weathered by time (and obliterated by my digital camera), some runes can still be seen here.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/runerock.JPG[/img]

This redbeard warned us of possible dangers, should we tarry long in the Mythical Land of the Vikings.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/redbeard.JPG[/img]

“Turn back! Turn baaaack!” The humble grippli sitting on this nearby sign warned us, but his efforts were in vain.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/grippli.JPG[/img]

Even this hideous little buzzard failed to turn us away from our quest.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/buzzard.JPG[/img]

Oh snap! This Nidhogg Serpent ain’t so bad! I been killin’ green dragons since I was knee-high to Gargoyle!
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/nidhogg_01.JPG[/img]

…Um, wait a second. Since when did the Nidhogg Serpent have two heads?
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/nidhogg_02.JPG[/img]

Have no fear! While Thor is on vacation in the Poconos, Heimdall is here to protect us!
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/heimdall_01.JPG[/img]

Quite an impressive lad, that Heimdall. He took some time–after driving off the Nidhogg Serpent–to share a bit of his life story with us, conveniently written on this laminated placard. He bought us some more funnel cake, as well.

There were other authentic Viking Treats to be had here, at Viking Golf. Just like Sigurd used to make.

With the dragon fled, and our bellies full of tasty, tasty funnel cake, we meet with one of the locals, “Bubbles.”
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/bubbles_01.JPG[/img]

Here we are deep in discussion over the finer qualities of the golf course manager. She was a fine, Bavarian lass, for certain.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/bubbles_02.JPG[/img]

For a moment, Bubbles and I thought we were long-lost cousins, or perhaps separated at birth.
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/bubbles_03.JPG[/img]

As the sun went down, Bubbles and I share a tender moment and bid each other farewell (NSFW).
    [img][650:500]http://www.let-off.com/photo/vikinggolf/bubbles_04.JPG[/img]

Of course, we take the traditional Viking method of transport back home, pleased with our day full of adventure, peril, frutive glances at the golf course manager, and pillaging. And did I mention funnel cake…?

    That was awesome. 😆

Especially the hawt action between you and Bubbles.

Hmm….but no hakarl from the snackbar? Father Tan would be sorely disappointed. Still, funnel cakes might need to be added to the CNR food crafting. Old Viking recipe eh? 🙂

Oh, we DEFINITELY need a golf course in MS! With Trolls and Grippli, and two-headed dragons and shrimp with fries, and funnel cake for dessert! Kudos to SMR to making us this panoramic picture book!

    A most excellent expedition.

We must find many more of these long lost Viking outposts.

That is awesome! I hope to someday find a viking outpost! Bubbles must have had treats in his beard for you.
