well with no fan fair I say hello. I heard that you all had great fun this year at the “Gathering”. I hesitate to think how I might have looked in one of those hats.

There have been some great rp lately and I have had the benefit of being included. I love the interaction with the other characters and the bantering that goes around as we attempt to all interact.

This is the reason why I play, and hope to get a shot at that pesky fiend again *Eyes Bulge* … maybe in another level 😉

the only problem I see is that I have not seen any of these characters you all mention in game in many months. I have logged a lot of hours of the last few weeks and can honestly say…..

two or three players are on all the time with me, the dm’s characters that “Have all this knowledge”, no where to be seen. What would work best for those of you in the know,

PM’s asking for a rp opportunity?

Waiting on line for hours hoping?

Going out and attempting to find things hit n’ miss?

I have been a on line gamer for many years and enjoy mixing up some good rp with adventuring about, but have never considered honestly crafting as a option. I do not have hours and hours to be on line by myself wandering around looking for things that I have no idea if I need them or not. My time in the real life is so precious, between my family, child, children on the way, my job, etc. etc. it just seems like I could use a hand.

I suppose learning one specific type of crafting at a time is a good way to begin. Lets say i wanted to learn how to…… write scrolls…….. how do I know what to get or use? If no compendium is possible to have created or purchased…… then it seems like….. hours and hours of trial and error is my option, yet as I have not that kind of time….. I have no option. Kinda Sad *pats self on back with pitiful smile*

Perhaps a one on one with a dm and a NPC is a option….. still waiting on DM to get back to me about a CDS “Character Development Session”….. perhaps this might help.

    Thanks for the feedback 🙂

I would love to see a Complete Crafting Guide……

Something I could print out that lists what makes what and where to look (not exactly where perhaps but get you to the right map) but I think this would be a great OOC compendium.

I would think that there even could be a IC contest to find the ingredients for various things. Perhaps the Sage or a enchantress with deep pockets wanting to spend some cash rather then die adventuring aimlessly.

    What you Think?

When this all began back in that Summer some 20+ years ago I never would have believed that the Markshire Campaign would have gone on to become a computer game. Becoming one of the best servers ever using this engine……….. Priceless.

Major Big High Fives, I am glad to be playing on the server this time around again…… no Meetings with the Gods this time around.

Ten role playing guys with dice and paper swimming out to the boat with two things on there mind:

1.) Sneaking a peek at the quality of the well proportioned tables on board for gaming purposes

2.) Rummaging through the cabin for Beer!

major props go to sam. not only did his bardic ways NOT make phantoms’ skin crawl, phantom offered him a hefty sum of money to hear a tale. ordinarily, phantom hates bards with a passion, but phantom didn’t even mind dropping the gold. he was too curious to hear what happened next in the story.

dude. that 95% maximum chance sounds badass. i’ve seen people thrown all ther eggs into the basket at 95% and fail, and that just makes everyone who needs the good to a community facepalm. on another server i played on a team of OOC married crafters made enchanted weapons for people, and when the enchanting husband failed with all his eggs at 95 % the wife whipped out her sword. it was hilarious and had to be calmed down from killing his mage ass.

another item that i feel is desperately needed in CNR are wands. it may be an assload of work to make them for all the spell levels up to 4th(i think?) but yo, i’ll straight dropkick a blind midget down a flight of stairs for some wands of darkness. maybe just do the normal buffs and a few other useful spells.

and a couple more potions to be able to be made. some ultravision, deathward and even the short lasting displacement.

i just thought of another one. a lantern that looks cool, with an AC bonus on it. something to make up for not being able to use a sheild with it.

ooh! and bardic instruments would be cool too.

You mean like the ones the Shady random merchants sell in Stonemark and Foothold?

yeah, but more skills and slightly more points involved. the gear with +2-3 on one skill is only useful for your first few levels. a robe along the lines of +1 AC, +5 hide and move silently would be perfect for all levels able to use it. maybe some gaunlets that add +5 to your pick locks and +1 DEX would be pretty useful too. or even something like padded armor that has a +2 WIS, and a pierce resist of 5 for monks.

    i got a couple.

some good robes and padded armor in the tailoring. some for mages, and some for monks and rogues. maybe some with damage resistance/reduction, and for the rogues, something that adds to their key skills.

also, for an rp aspect, some similar to a tennis ball or a racquetball. they’re good for training hand-eye coordination, or for juggling.

a way to enchant weapons with an effect instead of the extra d6 damage would be awesome. such as daze, stun, confusion, poison, a really low vampiric regen, or even level or stat drain for the evil characters.

…the xp you get is adjusted for the new level, if …

This isn’t the case according to a recent log. After getting the message that I had leveled, a couple of dead hill giants gave the same XP as initially. (90, 11 teamwork).

Then, after the valkyrie has done her little dance, the hill giants yielded 83/10.

This suggests that had I not leveled, I could have sat around killing giants netting 90 XP per. Make a bunch of passes through the pass and you could definitely get enough XP for a couple of levels.

*sniffs around* D*mn that’s some sharp cheddar.

so…people are actually making their ability to heal themselves a gamble for the sake of a few xp per monster? wouldn’t it just be easier to level, take a detour and kill one or two extra monsters?

i have to disagree with both of these. these are the skills of the classes. is an extra d6 damage or a few points in AC any cheesier than the free feats fighters get?

What Muddy and I were talking about was spashing in rogue for the purpose of getting tumble (with banked skill points) and sneak attack. Yeah, multiclassing is there to be used but I don’t think they had a level 16 fighter dipping into rogue for 1 level and putting 20 (held over/ banked) ranks into tumble for +4 ac in mind… you trying to say that isn’t cheese?

banking the points is cheese. taking rogue levels later on and making the most out of the points isn’t. i’m sure there has been ample play testing at wizards of the coast, and that is why the rules are how they are. knowing how to use the rules to your advantage isn’t cheese. it’s part of the game.

fortunately, they fixed the ability to bank a bunch of skill points in 2. however, the practice of banking levels confuses me to no end. the only difference i’ve noticed when not leveling up immediately is only that you can’t use heal kits on your portrait to heal yourself. the xp you get is adjusted for the new level, if you die you can actually lose the level you just got, and you don’t get the benefits of any new stuff. are there actually benefits that balance all that out?

Like the one that bothers me is seeing a lot of folks in combat hit a “sneak attack”. People take a level or two of rouge just to get the extra dmg from the sneak attack.

There’s another cheese factor to spash some rogue here and there,

    Tumble

i have to disagree with both of these. these are the skills of the classes. is an extra d6 damage or a few points in AC any cheesier than the free feats fighters get? they changed the way D&D was structured when they made 3rd edition and now mulitclassing is promoted. to call multiclassing as a rogue cheesy because they get rogue abilities seems a weak arguement. damn near ever character i’ve seen has been multiclassed. you can’t really say that’s it’s ok to get the benefits of some classes but not others.

and as far there not being a point to a pure rogue over a multiclassed one? just look at the numbers. at 25th level, the pure rogue’s sneak attack will be 12d6, while a multiclassed rogue’s will be between 1-4 d6. they get the most skill points, so they will have higher scores in more skills. plus they get special rogue abilities once they hit 10th level.

rogues are just as balanced as any other class. for single, or multiclassing. if you’re going to say that someone multiclassing as a rogue and using their skills cheesy, then you have to apply that logic to all classes. which defeats the purpose of multiclassing.

you journal entries save on your own hard drive, not on the bic file. so even if you’re playing the same character on a different server, you have the same notes. i make extensive use outta that bad boy.

the thing is that the pack animals’ packs only store up to 15 pages, which is about equal to 1 full inventory screen. each animal gets that 1 inventory screen, so up to 15 pages stores fine.

just only fill them up to 15 pages and take more animals. i think you can have up to 3 animals without problems. i know 4 penguins cause some freaky lag.
