Ulrich, sorry for the late reply, been a busy week and haven’t had a change to keep up.

The server is still functional and is reset weekdays at 9:30 or so.

We have several people who get in game on occasion and posting about when you’d be in game generally elicits responses.

You should be able to exit the building through the door you came in. The stairs up and down will lead to new areas soon. I just added the interior of the building and hadn’t gotten on to making the boss area and the other area.

The server was reset this morning so you should be back in the Start Area.

Apparently my only recourse is to ignore the GameSpy error message in the logs or the Gnome has no clue what’s going on.

    Gnome has a clue again.

Yeah, I have to reprogram him.

The gnome uses the old hosting codes for GameSpy. Will prolly require some research.

Down with GameSpy … after a quick check I’ve found that there is a fix for the lack of GameSpy. Two separate angles in fact.

First, NWNCX … the guys behind the database extension for the server-side … has been created for players. This “patch” does the following:

For the player, it does a few very noticeable things:
    • removes the long wait for the (non-functional) Master Server to time out
    • unlocks the game’s camera angle limitation (so you can do things like look straight up to see more of the game)
    • makes it possible to see new weapon visual effects, beam effects, and “skin” effects (like with barkskin) in-game
    • opens the possibility for open-face helms (custom content creators needed for this)
    • gives DMs the ability to use “instant feats” while possessing an NPC
    • restores multiplayer server listing in-game (using data from Skywing’s replacement listing server) (admin info)

To install this you can visit their page. You will need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package if it’s not already for some other game or application.

There are two ways to use this software:

    • You can run the provided NWNCX_Loader.exe file instead of NWMain.exe. This app runs the NWMain.exe but with the patches in the folder.
    • You can alternatively “patch” the NWMain.exe. This was fairly easy to do. I installed it with the camera angle unlock patch. Follow the instructions provided. Remember, this is at your own risk.

When you log in to the game with the alternate loader or with the patch, you won’t get the Master Player wait screen, you will see the old GameSpy screen but it will be filled with new information. Some of it is no longer useful, as the ping for all servers is 75, but the servers are listed by category and the history and favorites work.

I did the patch on my work computer’s install and everything seems fine so far.

Secondly, the new server list is made available online at http://www.nwnlist.com/. It works for any server that has added the proper codes to their computer server. This overrides the GameSpy information and sends it to NWNList instead. Markshire is now listed on the new system.

So there you have it. Enjoy.

The original crafting skills from a long time ago (pre Valhalla melt down) were lost. Sadly, there were multiple issues that caused all of that which I mentioned somewhere on here.

However, if this is all crafting XP/Levels received since the new Valhalla was put in place, then I have no clue why they have none. I can try restoring a slightly older DB but that would lose anything since the month ago one.

Yes. Just find any skeleton that we use (flaming ones, etc.) and add a knuckle as a droppable inventory item. I’ll go thru them when you send me the ERF and add some code to allow them to generate other stuff as appropriate.

Please post or send me a list of the various creatures effected. Please include RESREF and Tag.

Don’t worry if you miss any, we can add them later.

Corgano, send me an ERF of what you had done again and I will see about adding it this weekend.

Ceorlas, I will look at the Abbey and see what the listing is. The knuckles are included in the Random Merchant System for the Alchemist supplies as well. Though they might be fairly rare still so I will look at the table and adjust it.

I do resets Monday thru Friday at 9:30 am or so. Occasionally, I miss a day based on what’s happening at work but I get a reminder each weekday morning to reset the server.

Backups occur regularly as well, when the server log hits 450kb or greater, I archive the log and run backups on the server databases and the forum databases.

The server log read time effects server performance so when it clears that 450kb mark it’s better to archive the logs and start fresh.

As always, if you are in game more frequently and would like a reset send me a PM. The PM sends me an e-mail which I check more frequently than anything else.

    *holds up his phone*

I can even reset it via this thing now with remote access.

Login to the forums and vote for a day of the week to get this started.

If interest increases perhaps we’ll add even more new stuff in game and/or update existing stuff.

    Get in game!

    https://markshire.com/forums/

For those that haven’t popped back on since the server was restored, there are already several new areas in game. Starting with Fane Village which lies below the Narlynwik Forest. In the Dimmaskog Forest south of the village lies another tribe of Orcs to investigate.

There are rumors that a band of pirates have been running raids from the docks in the Laatneer district of Stonemark?

Get in game! All it takes is a few flakes to start the Blizzard!

If you didn’t receive this message, please check your spam/junk folders and your messages on here. If I got an undeliverable notice from your mail server I notified you via PM.

The powers involved in this effort to create new master server lists have begun efforts to communicate and create a single effort.

The NWNCore system listed above has had the files removed.

There are also non-patching methods coming forward according to Bioware forum posts.

I wouldn’t move on this just yet. Direct Connecting still works just fine.

I’ll see if there’s more on this later this week.

    Markshire’s Nerfed Pulse Drown

    by Hrogath of Deephold

As I just discovered I had not detailed this system yet.

The ORIGINAL water elemental ability, PULSE DROWN works like this:

    • Elemental takes 50% of its hit points in damage.
    • A radius of size large (5 meters) determines who is affected.
    • Each person within that radius must make a Fort Save at DC 20 or DIE.

They get this ability once per day.

In PnP they do not get a death attack. They get a bonus to attack when both the opponent and they are touching water. They get to drench things (put out fires). They also get to create a water vortex while in water that can cause damage per round.

    Specifications:

The Elemental engulfs the radius around it with water like a water bomb. Everyone caught in the blast must avoid getting knocked down from the water blast. Those that do get knocked down must make an initial save to avoid inhaling the water all around them. Those that fail this save must then make an additional save to avoid dying.

Effects last up to 3 rounds including initial PULSE.

    ROUNDS:

    • Water Elemental uses PULSE attack and all in the radius must make a Reflex Save or be knocked down. Elemental loses half its hit points.
    • All who were knocked down make a Drowning Fort Save, Failure = Loss of 50% of hit points and remain knocked down.
    • All in radius who missed their first Fort Save make a final Drowning Fort Save, Failure = Death.

All saves are modified by Elemental HD.

    • SMALL: 1-3 HD: DC 14
    • MEDIUM: 4-7 HD: DC 17
    • LARGE: 8-15 HD: DC 20
    • HUGE: 16+ HD: DC 25

We give the HUGE elementals two of these per day instead of one.

    Chaz Abihsot’s Coopery:

    Description:

The contents of this largish shop are all containers. Big crates mixed with small casks stand nearly to the ceiling all about. Display cases show off fripperies and coffers as well as intricate puzzle boxes intended to guard their contents.

    Signs:

    *just inside the door*
Barrel Sale! Two 20 gallon barrels for 10 gold!

*written in calligraphy and lying in a display case*
By order of the Mage School of Markshire, Chaz Abihsot, is allowed to dimensionally anchor businesses and homes for use with his business within the confines of Markshire. Chaz Abihsot is required to collect a use tax on all who require this service of 10,000 gold pieces.

    *written below it*
Please have the tax ready prior to the ritual. I have to pay them first.

*displayed on the other side of the case*
Not responsible for the contents of your chests or the chests themselves once opened outside of my shoppe. No warranties are given. Use at your own risk.

    Commonly known:

Chaz is a strange little gnome. He talks to himself and inanimate objects frequently as if they are his best friends. Perhaps he does this because he made them and considers them to be his children.

Chaz sells “secret” magical chests that he alone knows how to make. The secret of his magic and the chests has been known by all of Markshire for some time. However, most keep up the charade with him during their “clandestine” exchange.

It’s rumored that Chaz’s chests are susceptible to the chaotic magics unleashed by the Titan’s release.

It’s also rumored and therefore well known that Chaz was hired by the Mage School of Markshire and the Arcane Order to install “safe points” throughout Markshire for teleporting and for his chests.

I can post a copy of the file later if they can’t get it set.

*settles into his narrative voice gleaned from years as a TV Voice Over guy*

You see, Sar, the teams at Google send out these wee bitty programs called spiders that follow links all across the world wide web or www. These little “bots” as they are also called learn everything about each page they visit.

Now because the Markshire forums are login protected by the good people at phpbb, the Google Bots can’t get to the newest posts. phpbb decided to give them their own special login, of sorts, that allows them to spider the forums to ensure the search engine is up-to-date.

Since the Who’s Online code reads who is accessing the site at any given moment that someone else looks at the bottom of the Board Index then it will show when Google Bots are snooping around gleaning the data we send out into the ether.

And there, dear Sar, is the story of the Google Bots. Not nearly as fascinating as the GoBots but good for a few paragraphs.

*resumes normal voice and returns to work*

NOTE: Not trying to be condescending either, just wanted to do the National Geographic/Mike Rowe Discovery Channel thing.

The name thing is odd but not new. I think it has something to do with login and how the game’s supposed to use the Gamespy servers for Id.
